Desikan
இங்க் பேனா
தீபாவளிக்கு சென்னைக்குச் சென்ற போது பட்டாசுச் சத்தத்தின் மத்தியில் விசித்திரமான எண்ணம் வந்தது - அது இங்க் பேனாவில் எழுதிப் பார்க்க வேண்டும் என்பது!.
நல்ல மத்தியான வெயிலில் வண்டியைக் கிளப்பி, பேனாவைத் தேடிக்கொண்டு தி.நகரில் உள்ள கடைக்குப் போனேன்.
"இங்க் பென் இருக்கா?"
ஏற இறங்க ஒரு முறை பார்த்துவிட்டு "ஒண்ணே ஒண்ணு இருக்கு" என்று ஒரு அழுக்கான பேனாவை எடுத்துக் கொடுத்தார்.
"சரி, ஒரு பாட்டில் இங்க் கொடுங்க"
"இங்க் இல்லை சார், பேனா மட்டும் தான்"
வேண்டாம் என்று சொல்லிவிட்டு பஸ்ஸ்டாண்டு பக்கத்தில் ஒரு கடைக்குப் போனேன். அந்தக் கடையில் ஒரே ஒரு பாட்டில் இங்க் இருந்தது, வாங்கிப் பார்த்தால் அதன் தயாரிப்பு தேதி ஜூலை 1998 என்று அட்டையில் அச்சாகியிருந்தது. மூடியைத் திறந்தால் செடி முளைத்திருந்தாலும் முளைத்திருக்கலாம் என்று, ஹிக்கின்பாதம்ஸ் போனேன். அங்கு இங்க், இங்க் பேனா இரண்டுமே இருந்தன.
இரண்டு பேனாவும், ஒரு 'பிரில்' இங்க் பாட்டிலும் வாங்கினேன். ( பிரில் இங்க் ஒரு பாட்டிலின் விலை இப்ப என்ன தெரியுமா ? *) நேராக வீட்டுக்கு வந்து கதை, கவிதை எல்லாம் எழுதவில்லை, சும்மா இரண்டு வரி எழுதிப் பார்த்தேன்.
நிஜமாகவே இங்க் பேனாவில் எழுதுவது ஒரு தனி சுகம் தான்!
சின்ன வயதில் ( ஐந்தாம் வகுப்பு முதல் +2 வரை ) பள்ளிக்கு இங்க் பேனா தான். பால் பாயிண்ட் பேனா எடுத்து வந்தால் ஆசிரியர்கள் அபகரித்துக் கொள்வார்கள், அல்லது உடைத்துவிட்டு வெளியே தூக்கிப் போடுவார்கள்.
நான் படித்த காலத்தில் முக்கால்வாசிப் பேனாக்களுக்கு பிராண்ட் எல்லாம் கிடையாது, ஐந்திலிருந்து ஏழு ரூபாய்க்கு நல்ல பேனா கிடைக்கும். ஒரு ரூபாய்க்கு இரண்டு கோல்ட் கலர் நிப்பு கிடைக்கும். கேம்லின்(Camlin) பேனா ஒன்பது ரூபாய் என்று நினைக்கிறேன், அட்டைப் பெட்டியில் வரிசையாக பிளாஸ்டிக் கவர் போட்டு வைத்திருப்பார்கள். பேனா நடுவில் கண்ணாடி ஜன்னல் இருக்கும். அதில் இங்க்கின் அளவு தெரியும். மேஸ்தரி வைத்திருக்கும் மட்டப் பலகை போல் அதில் இருக்கும் ஒரு நீர்குமிழியைப் பார்ப்பதே சில சமயம் எனக்குப் பொழுதுபோக்கு.
திருச்சி கண்டோன்மெண்ட் கோர்ட்டில் மரத்தடித் தாத்தா, தடியாகக் கட்டை பேனா விற்பார். ஒருவிதமான புகை வாசனை அடிக்கும். ரொம்ப நேரம் எழுதினால் கட்டைவிரல் ஜாயிண்ட வலிக்கும். எங்கள் கிளாசில் சேட்டு வீட்டுப் பசங்கள் தான் ஹீரோ பேனா உபயோகபடுத்துவார்கள். பேனாவின் மூக்கில் அம்பு குறி இருக்கும். இங்க்கை பாட்டிலில் உறிஞ்சி எடுக்க வேண்டும். எவ்வளாவு உறிஞ்சி எடுத்தாலும், முழுவதும் நிரம்பாதது போல் உணர்வு இருந்துகொண்டே இருக்கும். இதற்குப் பயந்து கொண்டு பரிட்சைக்கு எடுத்துச்செல்ல மாட்டோம்.
பேனாவிற்கு இங்க் போடுவதற்கு கண் மருந்து போடுவது போல ஒரு ஃபில்லர் தேவை. இங்க் ஃபில்லர். கண்ணாடி இங்க் ஃபில்லர் பிளாஸ்டிக்காக மாறி, இப்பொழுது துப்பாக்கிக்கு குண்டு போடுவது போல் காட்ரிஜ் எல்லாம் வந்துவிட்டது. ரொம்ப அனுபவம் உள்ளவர்கள் பாட்டிலிருந்து அப்படியே நிரப்புவார்கள். கை ஆடாமல் கவனமாகப் போட வேண்டும்.
படிக்கும் காலத்தில் கருப்பு நிற இங்க் தான் எப்போதும் உபயோகிப்பேன். பிரில் இங்க் தான் அப்பொழுது பிரபலம், செல்பார்க் கருப்பு-நீலம் கலந்து 'புளு-பிளாக்' என்று ஒரு கலர் வித்தியாசமாக இருக்கும். அதே போல் 'டர்காய்ஸ் புளு' ( Turquoise-Blue) எனக்கு ரொம்ப பிடிக்கும். இதில் எழுதினால் மார்க் வராது என்று பரிட்சைக்கு உபயோக படுத்தமாட்டேன். இங்க் கலருக்கு எல்லாம் நல்ல பேர் இருக்கும். ராயல் புளூ, பர்மனெண்ட் பிளாக், லாரல் ரோஸ், டர்காய்ஸ் புளூ இப்படி. ஒத்தக்கடையில் கேம்லின் இங்க் கிடைக்கும், பிரில்லை விட இது டார்க்காக இருக்கும். பேனாவை மூடாமல் விட்டால் பிசுபிசுக்காகத் தட்டிப்போய் பேனாவை சர்விஸ் செய்ய வேண்டும்.
வடகலை தென்கலை சம்பிரதாயம் போல், ஒரு பிராண்ட் இங்க்கை உபயோகப்படுத்துபவர்கள், மற்ற பிரண்ட் இங்க்கை உபயோகப்படுத்த மாட்டார்கள்.
புதுப் பேனா வாங்கியவுடன் கழுத்துப் பகுதியில் உள்ள மரையில் விளக்கெண்ணை வாசனை வரும். இங்க் போட்ட உடன் சரியாக எழுதாது. கொஞ்சம் மக்கர் பண்ணும். சரியான அளவில் தோய்த்து சரியான கோணத்தில் எழுதவேண்டும். இங்க்கை உதறி, நிப்பைத் தடவிக் கொடுத்து, தாஜா செய்ய வேண்டும். நம்ம வழிக்கு வருவதற்கு ஒரு வாரம் ஆகும். பிறகு அது சமத்தாக நாம் சொல்லுவதை எல்லாம் கேட்கும். ரொம்ப நாள் பழகிய பேனாவாக இருந்தால் அதை யாராவது கேட்டால் கொடுக்க மனம் வராது. மற்றவர் உபயோகப்படுத்தினால், அழுத்தி எழுதி, நிப் கோணலாகி எழுத்து பட்டை அடிக்குமோ என்ற மனசு படபடக்கும்.
கொஞ்சம் நாள் எழுதிய பின் நிப்புக்கு அடியில் ஒரு வித பிசுபிசுப்பு வந்துவிடும். ஞாயிற்றுக்கிழமை நிச்சயம் பேனாவை சர்விஸ் செய்துவிடுவேன்.
பேனாவை சுத்தம் செய்வது என்பது ஒரு கலை. மிதமான வெந்நீரில் அதை ஊற வைத்து, அதில் படிந்திருக்கும் இங்க்கை எல்லாம் சுத்தமாக எடுத்துவிட்டு, கிழிந்த வேஷ்டித் துணியால் அதைத் துடைக்க வேண்டும். காய்ந்த பின் இங்க்கை நிரப்பி வழிக்குக் கொண்டுவர வேண்டும்.
கையில் ரத்தம் வந்தால் உடனே வாயில் வைப்பதை போல், விரலில் இங்க் வழிந்தால் தலையில் தேய்த்துக் கொள்வோம். தலை மயிர் இன்னும் கருப்பாக இருப்பதற்கு இதுவும் ஒரு காரணம் என்று நினைக்கிறேன். எவ்வளவு நல்ல பேனாவாக இருந்தாலும், கட்டை விரல் ஓரத்திலும், சட்டை ஜோபியிலும் கறைபடியாமல் இருக்காது. சில சமயம் கழுத்துப் பகுதி மரையில், நூல் சுற்றி எழுதுவோம். மரை திறக்க முடியாமல் போனால் பற்களால் கடித்துத் திறப்போம் (பேனாவின் கழுத்தில் தழும்பு தெரியும்) வாயெல்லாம் நீலக் கலரில் கிருஷ்ணர் வேஷத்தில் என்.டி.ஆர் போல காட்சியளித்திருக்கிறோம்.
கட்டாயம் பேனாவை ரிப்பேர் செய்ய பென்சில் பாக்ஸில் எப்போதும் சில உபகரணங்கள் இருக்கும் - சாக் பீஸ்/சின்ன துணி அப்பறம் பிளேடு. பேனா எழுதவில்லை என்றால் சாக்பிசை மூக்கில் வைத்தால் அட்டை போல், இங்க்கை உறிஞ்சும். அதே போல் பேப்பரில் இங்க் சிந்திவிட்டாலும் அதே சாக்பிஸ் தான். நிப் இடுக்கில் மெல்லிய பேப்பர் நார் புகுந்துவிட்டால், நடுவில் கீறி அதை எடுத்துவிட்டால் உயிர் பெற்று எழுதும். இவை எதுவும் வேலை செய்யவில்லை என்றால் பேனாவை உதற வேண்டும்.
இங்க் பேனாவில் எழுதினால் கையெழுத்து நன்றாக வரும் என்று நம்பிக்கை. இதைத் தவிர பள்ளிக்கூடத்தில் நம்மைவிட குண்டாக ஒருவனை அடிக்க முடியவில்லை என்றால், வீட்டுக்குப் போகும் போது புறமுதுகில் குத்துவது போல அவன் சட்டைக்குப் பின்புறத்தில் இங்க் தெளித்து பழிக்குப் பழி தீர்த்துக்கொள்வோம். பள்ளி கோடை விடுமுறை விட்ட அன்று எல்லோரும் எல்லோருக்கும் இங்க் தெளித்து விளையாடுவோம்.
கல்லூரிக்குப் போன பிறகு இங்க் பேனாவில் எழுதினால் கவுரவக் குறைச்சல், அதனால் பால்பாயிண்ட் பேனாவுக்கு மாறினோம். டாயல்ட் பேப்பர் போல், யூஸ் செய்துவிட்டு ரீஃபில் தீருவதற்குள், பேனா தொலைந்துவிடும், அல்லது உடைந்துவிடும்.
இன்று இங்க் பேனா ஒரு விலை உயர்ந்த நினைவுப் பரிசாகவும், ஷோ கேசில் அலங்காரப் பொருளாகவும் மாறிவிட்டது.
என் அப்பாவிற்குப் பரிசாக வந்த அந்த இங்க் பேனாவை என்னால் மறக்க முடியாது. என்னிடம் கொடுத்தார். நல்ல கனமாக இருந்தது. பேனாவின் மேல் அடித்திருக்கும் பெயிண்டைச் சுரண்டிப் பார்த்ததில் பித்தளை பளபளத்தது. அடுத்த சில நாள்களில் காணாமல் போனது. எனக்கு என் பக்கத்துவீட்டு நண்பன் மேல் தான் சந்தேகமாக இருந்தது. ஆனால் கேட்கவில்லை. சில மாதங்களுக்கு பின் அவர்கள் வேறு வீட்டுக்கு காலிசெய்து கொண்டு போனார்கள். ஒரு நாள் கிரிக்கெட் விளையாடிக் கொண்டிருந்த போது, பந்து ஜன்னல் வழியாக அவர்களின் பூட்டிய வீட்டுக்குள் போனது, சுவர் ஏறிக் குதித்து உள்ளே போனபோது எனக்கு ஒரு இன்ப அதிர்ச்சி காத்துக்கொண்டிருந்தது. அந்த பித்தளை பேனா உள்ளே இருந்தது.
இன்று அந்தப் பேனா என்னிடம் பத்திரமாக இருக்கிறது; ஆனால் இங்க் பேனாவை தொலைத்துவிட்டோம்.

இங்க் - இங்க் மற்றும் இந்திய நினைவுகளை கிளப்பி விட்டு விட்டது !! மாட்டிகிட்டீங்க!!
ப்ரில் இங்க் - ன் தஞ்சை மாவட்ட விநியோக்ஸ்தர்(தமிழ்?) அல்லது பிரபல படுத்துபவர்(?)நான் வசித்திருந்த சீர்காழி/தென்பாதி - சர்வமான்யத் தெருவிலிருக்கும் ஒரு வீட்டிற்கு மாதம் இருமுறை என வருவார். சரியான நேரத்தில் அவர் முகம் பார்த்து வழிந்தால், வழியும் சிறார்களுக்கு இலவச இங்க் ஃபில்லர்களும், எழுதும் காகிதங்களும் கிடைக்கும் ( miniature letter pads!) ..
இங்க் ஃபில்லர் மாதிரி அற்புதமான விஷயம் உலகத்திலிருந்ததில்லை..
மெய்சிலிர்த்து போகலாம் எனது இங்க் ஃபில்லர் நினைவுகளை முழுமையாக கிளற முடிந்தால்..

Saturday, 17.11.07, 10:23:04தங்க நிப் அப்டின்னு சொல்லி, பத்திரமா வச்சுக்கோன்னு அப்பா கொடுத்த swan பேனா ரொம்ப பட்டையடிக்கும். ஆனால் டெஸ்க்கில குத்திட்டு மறுபடி எழுதினாகூட எழுதும். அப்பா வச்சிருந்த waterman பேனா இப்போ இருந்தா அதன் மதிப்பு எவ்வளாவாயிருந்திருக்கும்? அந்தப் ப்ரெள்ன் கலர் பேனா மேல தான் ரொம்ப நாள் எனக்கு கண். இன்னொரு பேனா அப்பாட்ட இருந்தது. அதில் க்ளிப் பெருசா நடுவில சதுர இடைவெளியோடு இருக்கும். அதில என் சின்னப் பிள்ளை போட்டோ ஒண்ணை அப்பா கொஞ்ச நாள் வச்சிருந்தாராம்; சொன்னார்; நம்பிக்கொண்டேன்.
இப்போ மூணு cross பால்பாய்ண்ட் பேனா பத்திரமா அலமாரியில் தூங்குது.

Nice to read ur article after a longtime. Ur writing style is simple and always excellent. This article reminded me about my school days. I will forget to fill the ink everyday and I used to borrow 2 or 3 drops of ink from my friends. Sometimes I used paper or thread on the pen to prevent the ink from leaking or spilling on my fingers. It will leave a round mark in my pocket whenever my pen leaks. My friend used a "Hero Pen" and he was the hero for our class.

ஊற வைத்து எடுத்ததில் ம றை லூசாகி (பேனாவிற்க்கு !) , புத்தூர் கட்டுபோட்டு, நிப்பிற்ற்கு அடியில் இருக்கும் கட்டை உருமாறி -
ஒரே அல்லொகலம்தான்.
அதானால் சட்டைப் பையிலும், நெஞ்ஞிலும் என்றுமே
போகாத இங்க் கறை - இதனால் பேனாவை
'வெற்றி கப்'' பைப்போல் வலது கையில் தூக்கி பிடித்த து நடந்த
ஒரு வருட காலமும் உண்டு. ப்ணக்கர பையன்கள் watermaan இங்க்தான் என்று பீத்திக்கொள்ளும் பொழுது ஓரு ஏக்கம் உண்டாகும்

Nice blog after a long time. Heavy nostalgia. Anyways it is, as you said, a pleasing experience.
This does not stop with ink pen alone. There are quite a few things that can inspire nostalgic writing:
* geometry box
* exam pad and its changes
* the cycle we first got to go to school
* mathematics note book - remeber we used to open sideways it will be white with two red lines - one side for rough work - the wider right side, one is margin - the left side and the middle one for the sums!
Hmmm! Lots and lots. Also remember the "doses" we get from father especially when we mess up the pen and the bril ink bottle!! Also the first time we were presented with PILOT, GAMMA, HERO progressively - I liked GAMMA pens the best - smooth writings - used to be manufactured by GEM PENS T-NAGAR!!!

I know of one MB ganesh who fought with his english teacher for reducing 3 marks because he used a ball pen!! MB Ganesh was a gladiator in our eyes in those days!!
Our science teacher,TRS who was for some unknown reason nicknamed as "krishnaoil" was a big hater of ball pen and his really beautiful hand writing, he claimed , was due to the use of ink pens!

reply to this comment Thursday, 17.01.08, 14:44:48தேசிகன் சார், நாங்கள் படிக்க ஆரம்பிச்ச போது, வெறும் பென்சில் தான். அதிலிருந்து பேனா மாறுவதற்கு நாங்கள் பட்ட பாடு! ஆனால், வருஷம் பல இடைவெளி இருந்தாலும், பேனா ரிப்பேர் செய்யும் முறை மாறவே இல்லை.
இப்பொது கூட பார்கர் கம்பனி மை பேனாவை விற்கிறார்கள் பொலிருக்கிறதே! நான் இங்கிலாந்தில் ஒரு எழு வருஷம் முன்பு இருந்த போது வாங்கியிருக்கிறேன்.

When I was checking at my Brother Desk Drawer there is not even one Ink Pen and now even the Key Appln Forms says not to fill in Ink Pen also makes one more nail in it s Coffin.
The last ten years of the Mail-Mania Makes people seldom use the art of writing letters..(Neenga eppam last aga letter ezhutheergal?) also make the pen which plays a vital role in your life going away..

Excellent article. I remember my school days back in late 80s and early 90s when my Physics teacher used "Turquoise Green" pen to sign our 10th and 12th observation and record notebooks. He thought that the color us unique and nobody can fake his signature. But namma pasanga ellam romba sharp. They went and got similar pen and ink and started signing teacher's signatures for guys who did not do their work on time.
Still green in memory. Again wonderful article.

Pencil sharp panrathu bayangara activity... no sharpeners at our house at that time, three of us sisters and 2 other cousins in a joint family set up used to annoy our father so much, he would use a razor blade (used one) for sharpening.....
In this time of use and throw razors, my father still uses the old way of replacing blades...
